Our Mission

  1. Programs for the public and students of all ages that make extensive use of the resources of both the foundation and related resources.
  2. Exhibits mounted on various aspects of steamship design, engineering, construction, history, and all other aspects of coastal steamship travel and commerce both aboard SS NOBSKA, at Foundation land-based facilities, and through other museums and educational facilities.
  3. Publications produced on a wide range of topics relating to coastal steamship history, travel and commerce made readily available to the general public.
  4. Support of scholarly research with results accessible to both general and specialized audiences.
  5. Continued efforts to gather and conserve materials relevant to the history of the American coastal steamship including the gathering of relevant library material.

The New England Steamship Foundation (NESF) is a Berthed at Nantucket charitable, scientific, and educational organization as defined under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and is incorporated under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is governed by a Board of Trustees who appoint a President to manage, direct and supervise the operation of the foundation.
